Freight Settings
Multiple freight methods maybe offered to the customer. Each method must be set up using the Freight Wizard. In addition to the freight methods there are a few freight settings that are common to all methods. These are set in the freight setup wizard.
- By-pass fright calculations. If you do not charge any freight for your orders, check this option to speed up the checkout calculation.
- Default Freight Method. This will be the freight method used for order total calculation in the event no freight method has yet been supplied to the checkout script. Or, if only one freight method is set, this will also be the default method.
- Domestic country list. For international freight rules, if the shipping address country in not in this list, international freight rules will apply.
- APO prefix list. For certain state or province codes that are domestic but require a separate rate, they may be listed here. If the shipping address country is in this list, APO rules will apply.
- Default shipping weight. For freight rules dependent on weight, product weights are required. The default shipping weight is used if no weight has been supplied in the product record. Note that this means 0 in weight fields will invoke the default, so enter 0 oz. or a fractional weight in the product record.
- Shipping weight unit. For freight rules dependent on weight, this entry specifes what weight unit the rules utilize. If a product does not have a weight unit entered in the weight field, this entry will apply.
Product Freight Settings
There are several product fields that relate to freight calculations.
- Free shipping item. If checked, this item will not add to freight calculations
- Item shipping cost. If the item cost shipping method is used, total shipping cost is the accumulation of this amount.
- Extra freight. For shipping methods other than the item cost shipping method, the amount in this field will be added to total freight cost.
- Item handling. Amounts in this field will be added to order handling costs. Order handling is a separate total from order freight and subject to different tax rules.
- Shipping weight. For weight-based freight rules, this is a required entry and dictates total shipping. For others, it is optional and can be used for display purposes. Valid entries for this field are:
- number only. The shipping weight unit will be assumed.
- number and shipping weight unit.
- number and shipping weight unit followed by a second number and shipping weight unit.
- examples: 10; 10oz; 10 oz; 10lb 3 oz; 1.5 lb
- valid shipping weight units are: oz, lb, kg, g
